Turning Japanese

The Japanese can now claim to make the best whiskey in the world.   If you haven't had Japanese whisky it is very much like Scotch, though more Highland than Islay.  If there is any interest, I can try to get a bottle the next time I or someone from work goes to/from Japan.

Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 was awarded the title by the 2015 Whisky Bible, scoring 97.5/100.

  1. I emailed the liquor store. We should try this. I know we've tried another Japanese whisky.

  2. They can be very good. Jim Murray (author of Whiskey Bible) said, "If anyone wants to find out roughly what the first Macallan-10-year-old I had in 1975 tasted like, then grab a bottle of this."

Not sure if that is from his tasting notes in the book or just a direct quote.

  3. It looks like they are no longer making this, so supplies will be limited...especially now. Don't know if that is just the 2013 bottling that is discontinued (obviously) or the Sherry Cask variety.
